The Taj Mahal

(Nicole) Rooftop restaurants with a view of the city are popular in India. In Agra, we climbed atop a rooftop eatery to see the one, the only, TAJ MAHAL. We came during the sunset hours to linger over the misty view. Several tourists were there already enjoying this wonderous moment. Everything we've done culminated to this point, this view. We had a simple dinner, yet it meant so much as we lusted over the TAJ. It was grander than life; if only we can touch it...
Reflection of the Taj

The next day, we woke up at 5am to get to the TAJ for the sunrise (deja vu: Angkor Wat.) I was so excited that I couldn't sleep the night before. Of course, many tourists were there already! However, I don't think Indian nationals care about seeing the Taj at sunrise since the Taj is here for them anytime. But for us, it was a once in a lifetime moment.

Slowly, the sunshine gave life to the TAJ. It is whiter, more splendous, and more magnificent than I imagined. The TAJ is not a puny monument when seen in real life--it is really, really grand! We walked barefooted around the TAJ, taking its image in every angle, in every lighting. Then finally, I touched the TAJ. Its white marble was cold to my hands; how can someone build something so magnificent?

We loomed around the TAJ, not wanting to leave this moment that simply cannot be described.Maybe we will come back here when we retire and see if it is still pearly white and awesome as we saw it today...
